About the Journal

Culture and Arts in the Modern World is a periodical peer-reviewed open access journal that covers topical issues of the theory and history of Ukrainian and world culture, theoretical and creative problems of art development in modern conditions.

The journal considers for publication only original work that has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Submitted manuscripts should confirm thorough knowledge of primary sources and relevant scientific publications, contribute to knowledge development in the field of culture and art, and offer new ideas.

By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree to adhere to the publication's editorial policy.

Culture and Arts in the Modern World is published once a year, in September.

One article by one author may be published in the issue.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

No fees are charged at the submission, review, or publication stages for this publication.

The publication in the collection does not involve the payment of royalties.

Colour illustrations are reproduced for free in the online version of the article.

Types of submissions

Culture and Arts in the Modern World considers the following types of manuscripts for publication:

  • Research articles that will contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of art studies, contain scientific novelty, have theoretical or practical significance, and offer new, clearly presented, and argued methods or ideas. The recommended length is 20,000 - 40,000 characters (including an abstract, list of references, figures, tables, etc.);
  • Case study articles are those that thoroughly investigate and analyse a specific case of a problem and suggest a solution. The recommended length of the submission is up to 20,000 symbols;
  • Review scholarly articles that provide a critical analysis, systematisation, and evaluation of previously published materials on a particular topic. Their goal is to introduce the results of research and discussions, compare different points of view, and identify new areas of research. The recommended length is up to 30,000 characters;
  • Book reviews. The recommended length is up to 15,000 characters. The review should specify the purpose, choice justification, and results.

Peer Review

All submitted manuscripts undergo an anonymous peer review by two independent anonymous experts in the relevant research area to ensure high scientific standards of the published materials.

Manuscript Preparation

The manuscript should meet the requirements of these Guidelines and be formatted according to the Article Template (PDF).

Content Requirements:

Manuscripts submitted to the Culture and Arts in the Modern World should:

  • conform to the scope of the journal;
  • demonstrate a high scholarly level of the material, meeting such criteria as relevance, scientific novelty, the theoretical or practical significance of findings, well-reasoned conclusions, references, etc.;
  • adhere to the academic writing style, in particular logic, coherence, facts accuracy, integrity, and completeness.

Structure Requirements:

The text of the manuscript should be structured and contain the following:

  • UDC index
  • manuscript title
  • author’s first and last name*
  • academic degree, academic rank**
  • affiliation, city, country
  • ORCID ID, e-mail
  • structured Abstract
  • keywords
  • manuscript body text
  • References
  • Conflict of Interest Statement
  • Acknowledgments
  • Funding Statement

*One author must be identified as the corresponding author.

**Authors who do not have an academic degree/academic rank indicate the position: assistant, lecturer, etc.

Abstract and Keywords Requirements:

The Abstract should:

  • be written in the language of the article;
  • take into account British English spelling and grammar;
  • be informative, structured, and reflect the main content of the article;
  • be presented in a single paragraph with the following headings in italics: Aim of the article. Results. Scientific novelty/practical significance/contribution to science. Conclusions.

The recommended length is 1800–2000 characters.

The Abstract should not:

  • repeat the article title;
  • use general phrases;
  • provide citations or references;
  • duplicate conclusions.

Keywords:

  • 3–7 words or phrases;
  • do not repeat words from the article title;
  • separated by a semicolon.

Body Text Requirements:

The body text of the original research article should be structured into sections:

Introduction

It should contain the problem statement, its relevance, connection with important scientific or practical tasks, and significance for solving the problem.

Recent research and publications analysis.

Review of current research and publications on the topic, in particular in recent years; highlighting previously unresolved issues, and parts of the general problem dealt with in the article.

Aim of the article

Formulating the research aim.

The aim should be formulated briefly, as explicitly as possible, and correspond to the title. Along with the formulation of the main goal, the intermediate objectives can be specified.

Main research material

The section should contain the justification of the obtained scientific results.

Conclusions

Conclusions should reflect the essence of the obtained results according to the aim and title of the article; indicating the scientific novelty, significance, and/or contribution of the results to the development of science. Conclusions should be logically related to the content of the article; and do not contain information that is not presented in the text of the manuscript. In conclusion, it is necessary to formulate prospects for further research in this direction.

References

The Reference List should contain sources in their original language. The References are presented after the body text of the article.

The format should follow the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines (American Psychological Association (APA) Style, 7th edition).

It should contain the information necessary to find the source cited in the article. Each source cited in the text must appear in the References. Similarly, each entry in the References must be cited in the text.

If a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is available, it must be added to the source.

At the end of the entry, the original language should be indicated: [in Ukrainian], [in English].

Acknowledgments. Acknowledgments may be made to people who contributed to the research, as appropriate.

Conflict of Interest Statement .

If there is no conflict of interest, it must be indicated: “The author declares that have no conflicts of interest”.

Funding Statement. Information regarding the sources of research funding (if necessary).

The body text of a review scholarly article should contain:

Technical Requirements

  1. The manuscript file is prepared in the MS Word editor (.doc; .docx)
  2. А4 page size
  3. Times New Roman font
  4. 14-pt font size
  5. 1.5 line spacing
  6. Paragraph indent: 1.25 cm
  7. Width alignment
  8. Page setup: 20 mm left, right, top, and bottom margins
  9. Automatic page numbering is not allowed

The author’s emphasis in the text should be highlighted in italics.

The commentary from the author should be in parentheses, adding the author’s initials in italics after a dash.

Abbreviations should be explained upon first use in the text.

The following should be separated by a non-breaking space (Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar):

  • initials and surname (B. Stupka);
  • page numbers, volumes, and paragraphs (P. 21–24; Vol. 9; par. 2);
  • units of measurement (8 km; 25 thousand);
  • numbers and abbreviations of years, centuries (1971 yr.; 21st cent.);
  • abbreviations before geographical names (Mt. Everest).

It is necessary to distinguish between the symbols (-hyphen) and ( – dash), (’ – apostrophe), («» - quotation marks for Cyrillic text, and “ ” – for Latin).

Time and numerical intervals should be with the dash without spaces: (June–August; 127–259).

Figures and Tables

Manuscripts may contain images illustrating the main points of the study. The author is responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce figures.

The number of figures should not exceed 10. The figure file format is jpg. The figure resolution is 300 dpi.

Each figure is sent as a separate file. If there are several figures, their serial number is added to the author’s surname in the file name. For example, Ivanov 1.jpg; Ivanov 2.jpg; Ivanov 3.jpg.

Figures (charts, diagrams, photo images) and tables are arranged according to the text and accompanied by references (fig. 1; Table 1).

Tables should be numbered in the order they appear in the text. They should contain new information, and not repeat the material presented in the text. Use only the portrait orientation mode.

All figures and tables should be signed and titled. If the table or figure that you present in your work was not created by you, it is necessary to indicate their source.

In-Text Citations and Quotations

This journal requires compliance with the rules of citation and reference to sources in the text of submitted manuscripts. This applies to data, images, ideas taken from any printed or electronic sources. The use of these materials should be properly acknowledged, and the authors should clearly indicate the source cited.

The manuscript should cite relevant and verified sources to support the author’s arguments.

Quotes are given in the language of the manuscript.

  • Direct quotes of 40 words or more should be formatted as block quotes.
  • Block quotes start on a new line with a paragraph indentation. No quotation marks are used. At the end of the text of the quote, put the period and indicate the source in parentheses.
  • The content of quotes and references to relevant pages must correspond exactly to the original sources.
  • Authors should avoid excessive self-citation.

The format of in-text citation should follow the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines for formatting academic work (American Psychological Association (APA) Style, 7th edition).

An in-text citation should appear every time after citing the source (inline quote, block quote, paraphrase).

Manuscript Submission

  1. Manuscript should be submitted in English language.
  2. Submitting a manuscript means that it is not considered for publication in other printed (electronic) publications.
  3. One article should have no more than three co-authors. Changes to the list of authors after submission are not allowed.
  4. By submitting the manuscript to Culture and Arts in the Modern World, the author gives his consent to the originality verification during the peer review.
  5. Authors are responsible for the content of the article, the accuracy of facts and surnames, and obtaining permission to publish illustrations.
  6. The manuscript file name must correspond to the surname of the first author.
  7. Information about the authors should be provided in Ukrainian and English. It is mandatory to include the ORCID identifier of each author.
  8. The manuscript can be submitted to the editorial board by e-mail (culture.art@knukim.edu.ua) or via the online form Submit an Article on the Journal’s website (http://culture-art-knukim.pp.ua/submission/wizard) indicating which section it is submitted to.
  9. The deadline for manuscript submission for the current issue is the 1st of June.
  10. Manuscripts that do not correspond to the scope of the journal Culture and Arts in the Modern World and do not meet the requirements for the content, style, structure, design, etc., will be rejected by the editorial board.

The guidelines provided are general in nature. We recommend that authors review previous issues of the collection of academic papers and, if necessary, contact the editor of Culture and Arts in the Modern World with specific requests.
